I’ve been extremely lucky in my life. I try to remember every day to practice gratitude. For the big things, like that I have the best job in the world, that I grew up with amazing parents who made me feel like I could do anything I set my mind to, that I have truly wonderful people in my life … to the little things, like how much I love the sound of the stream in the yard, or the sight of the sun streaming through the trees, or the taste of an Oreo cookie. I noticed today a sticky note I had put on my computer that said “What can I give back?” that I had put there to remind me of the importance of sharing my good fortune with others.
There are a lot of great organizations out there to help people who aren’t as lucky in their lives, and I’m thrilled to be involved with a wonderful one. Wish Upon A Wedding is a wish-granting organization that grants weddings for couples facing a serious, life-threatening or terminal illness. They’ve just recently begun granting wishes in the Atlanta area, and the first Atlanta wedding couple is Deven and Cliff.
When I met Deven and Cliff, I became even more thrilled to be involved with shooting their wedding. They are one of the most gracious, easy-going, and fun-loving couples I’ve ever met. You can tell from their images how much they enjoy each other and how much they enjoy life.
This image is one of my favorite moments from the session. Deven was saying that she was going to soak in this moment, and remember this beautiful, perfect day in Piedmont park.
And this series cracks me up. We did a couple images with Deven and Cliff separate, and then when I asked him to lean in for a kiss, she gave him this fabulous diva look.
Followed by more laughter. I love a couple that laughs this easily, particularly given their situation. I really get the feeling that they are grateful for every moment and small pleasure, and especially grateful to be in each other’s lives.
I cannot wait to be able to share images from their wedding, coming up in November!
