In the 8 years I’ve been doing weddings, I’ve seen a lot of things. I’ve said “WOW, that’s a great idea” and seen what goes wrong, in equal parts. I’ve learned a lot about people, stress, creativity, and organization. So I’m starting a new series of wedding day tips and tricks to help make your wedding day go as smoothly as possible. I’ll be sharing these tips, in no particular order, as I’m reminded of them and as I see great ideas.
Tip #1 in my series is this: Bring extra socks for the guys.
Most brides pack an emergency kit, that contains helpful things like safety pins, fashion tape, stain remover, and a sewing kit. But usually that emergency kit is with the ladies, and the guys get ready in a different location. And I can tell you this with a reasonable degree of certainty:
One of the guys will forget to bring the right socks.
When the men pick up their tuxes, they will usually get the whole set: jacket and pants, vest, tie, cufflinks, pocket square, even shoes. You know what they usually don’t get? Socks. I’ve been there many times when the guys are getting themselves ready, and I cannot even count the number of times one of the wedding party has worn white, blue, grey, or Scoobie Doo socks because they forgot to bring a black pair.
I’d recommend packing a men’s emergency kit, with one or two pairs of black socks. For that matter, throw in things that could come up missing as they get ready: an extra set of cufflinks, an extra tie, even an extra white tee. (Yeah, I’ve seen guys put on black t-shirts underneath their white dress shirts).
Happy wedding planning!
