Ahoy, mateys! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day! I be celebratin’ with the pirate themed wedding of Ben + Rona, a scallywag and wench with a treasure trove of style and fun! I travelled to the far off land of Madison, Wisconsin as this be a family weddin’. Ben is my sister’s son, and Rona smartly became like family as well, wit’ her zest fer life ‘n fun.
[Okay, I’m gonna have to revert back to talking normally, because this Pirate thing is tough.]
This wedding is also featured here on Offbeat Bride!
The setting was Badger Farms, outside Madison, and they did a great job of creating a pirate themed wedding that’s a fantastic mix of rustic elegance and cute, quirky details that show off their personalities and what they love. This wedding is a great lesson in how to make a wedding fit your unique personalities and still be stylish, and all with lots of DIY elements.
How much do you love Rona’s shoes?
And of course, she’d have a real sixpence (customized with their initials) to put in her shoe for good luck.
This jewelry is amazing! I love it because you don’t really realize until you’re close what it is. It’s these touches that are so stylish and whimsical!
And Rona’s veil is absolute perfection, I always love a birdcage veil, but especially with a tiny pirate hat.
Just gorgeous bride and bridesmaids. With tons of style.
Ben had some great details too, check out these cufflinks and tie!
The setting was gorgeous, and it was a beautiful day.
I loved the look on Ben’s face, and even a small teardrop when Rona came down the aisle.
I’ve seen a sand ceremony before, but they way they made it so subtly and elegantly pirate-y was perfection.
And oh, how I love it when a ceremony is filled with smiles and laughter. What better way to start a marriage than with humor and joy??
A few photos of the wedding party. They were so much fun!
And then with the bride and groom, we really had fun!
We also did a few romantic photos out in the field at sunset. So sweet.
The reception details were cool. Nautical and quirky and so, so much fun!
One of my favorite parts of the reception is always the toasts. I love hearing about people from their best friends, and learning what makes them so special. In this case, Rona’s BFF since childhood said she remembered the first time they met and how Rona was “aggressively friendly”. It’s such an awesome way to describe someone!
And when it was time for the first dance… well, it started out as a dance, and a sword fight broke out.
Shiver me timbers! Isn’t this so much fun?! Hope ye enjoyed it, and have a fine Talk Like a Pirate day!
